Calahonda and its environment offer a beautiful spot and some peculiarities that can be discovered thanks to its long-lived historic legacy of the first civilizations of the Iberian Peninsula, such as Arab origin castles and watchtowers of the Phoenician and Roman period, as the Castle of Carchuna, the Arab origin lighthouse o the Watchtower of Zambullón. Furthermore, you can always visit villages such as Motril, Salobreña or Almuñecar where you can find complete rests of all these civilizations. It also has, due to its exceptional micro-climate, indigenous vegetation with tropical flowers and plants. No need to mention the spots and views to the sea that can be enjoyed just going to any of the high places such as the watchtower of Sacratif or the rocky outcrop of Calahonda.
We must highlight the qualification of the zone with its blue flag, which is a distinction awarded yearly by the European Foundation of Environmental Education to those beaches and ports that fulfill a series of environmental conditions and facilities.
