Calahonda is a small village protected by an old rock that shields it from the east wind. Nowadays it’s a municipality together with Carchuna on its right and Los Gualchos on its left. Well communicated by road, only 10 minutes ride from Motril and 35 from Granada, it has a little of everything that might be needed: squares, walks, parks, restaurants, kiosks, parking, pubs, pharmacies, banks, supermarkets, etc..

Its origin is presumably a strategic jetty that was declared 2nd class port in the 17th Century, even before than the one of Motril, which received in its generous pool ships from the Americas. The submerged mystery of its deep waters relates old pirate stories which nowadays no one knows except the fishes and any unknown historian.
